
- Klaus Mitteldorf was born in Sao Paulo in June 23rd, 1953.
- In 1979, he graduated in Architecture from Universidade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo Braz Cubas (University of Architecture and Urbanism Braz Cubas) in Mogi das Cruzes.
- Mitteldorf experience with photography was gained through experimentation since the age of 12 when he won his first camera from his father: a Yashica Mimi.
- From 1974, he truly got involved in photography, documenting the lives of surfers in the beaches of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. His first magazine cover and photos were published in the journal Brasil Surf (Surf Brazil), Rio de Janeiro, in 1975. In the same year, he also produced his first documentary in Super 8, a surf documentary called TERRAL, the first of its kind made in Brazil.
- In 1981/82, after publishing his photos in several Brazilian magazines of that time, such as POP, CASAVOGUE, VOGUE, and CLAUDIA MODA, Mitteldorf made his first solo exhibitions at Fiorucci, in Rio de Janeiro, and Galeria Itaú, in Sao Paulo
- In the early 80s, the photographer set up a studio in Sao Paulo and produced photographic campaigns for the best agencies in the business for over 20 years, including to Germany, where he lived from 1988 to 1996.
- Among their clients are Brazilian agencies such as DPZ, Neogama, DM9, Africa, W/Brasil, Talent, J.W.Thompson, Young & Rubicam, Mc Cann Ericsson, ALMAP BBDO, Ogilvy, Lintas, Lowe, Worldwide and European agencies as Young&Rubicam Frankfurt, BBDO Hamburg, Mc Cann Ericsson Frankfurt and J.W.Thompson New York.
- His works have been published in magazines as Vogue, Elle, Brazil, Germany, Playboy Germany, USA and Brazil; Photo Franceo; Zoom France; Graphis New York and in numerous magazines on photography and art.
- His works have received international recognition and numerous awards. In 1980, 1982 and 1986, he won the Award Nikon. In 2001, was the first winner of the Fundação Conrado Wessel de Fotografia of Sao Paulo. In 2008, he received the “Overseas Prize” in the International Festival of Photography of Higashikawa, Japan, for the photos of his book O Último Grito (The Last Cry), and the homonymous exhibition at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo in 1998.
- Klaus published eight books in Brazil, Germany, United States and Switzerland and held numerous solo exhibitions in several countries.
- Currently, Klaus lives and works in Sao Paulo and is involved with the production of two fiction feature films: the first one is “Rio-Santos”, in coproduction with two film production companies, Academia de Filmes and Primo Filmes, both in Sao Paulo, with the launch scheduled for 2014; and the second, “Cans On The Beach”, with Norami Filmes, scheduled for launch in 2017.
