About Mario Testino

Mario Testino is one of the world's most influential photographers. Born in Lima, Peru, he moved to London in 1976 pursuing photographer's career. His ability to understand and read the cultural and commercial spirit of his time made him a popular figure to be called upon by the fashion industry.

He is best known by shooting international figures such as Kate Moss, Diana, Princess of Wales; Gisele Bündchen, Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Mario Testino is widely featured in magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair and V Magazine.

Mario Testino's work has been exhibited all over the world, including the remarkable Portraits in the National Portrait Gallery of London (2002), breaking the attendance record of the time. His work Todo o Nada (2010) was exhibited at Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, in Madrid, making Mario Testino one of the select few living artists to ever be invited to have their work exhibited there. Testino's first work to reach China was the Private View exhibition at Today Art Museum, Beijing (2012) and Shanghai Art Museum (2012), while the first to reach the US was In Your Face, exhibited at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts (2012).

Mario Testino is an inspired philanthropist, pushed by what he describes as the "character-building experiences of my entire life." He is the president of the Council in the Global Fund of Peru's Monuments, a fund to preserve and protect Peru's archaeological and historical sites. He also supports causes such as Naked Heart Foundation, Elton John Aids Foundation, Aid for Aids, CLIC Sargent Cancer Care, amfAR, Women to Women, among others.

In July 2012 he founded MATE - Museo Mario Testino in Lima, Peru. MATE is a cultural non-profit organization. It promotes and celebrates his home country's fine arts and holds a permanent exhibition of his own work.

Mario Testino has been internationally awarded and acknowledged several times, including with the Tiradentes Medal in Rio de Janeiro and the Grandmaster of the Order of Merit; Peru's highest honor, and presented to him by the president himself. In 2013 he was awarded with the honorary OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in recognition of his service to photography and charity.
