From January 17 to December 16, 2018, Museu de Arte Brasileira (MAB FAAP) is hosting a new exhibit of "Never-ending color: paintings and tapestries by Jacques Douchez."
The exhibition is an example of the visual primacy of colors, given their abundance and the diversity of their properties, multiple combinations and contrasts that may or may not ensure malleability to create areas, volumes and visual effects, among other characteristics.
Sharing space with the exhibit is another first-time event: "B&W - MAB Collection" features a cross-section of works exclusively dominated by black and white pigments and intermediate shades of gray, while the "Never-ending color" exhibit in the central room allows visitors to appreciate MAB FAAP's recent collection of paintings and tapestries by Jacques Douchez.
After settling in Brazil in 1947, Douchez went on to become one of the most outstanding tapestry makers of the second half of the 20th century as his ideas and accomplishments started to gain artistic distinction for tapestry produced in Brazil. Douchez's in-depth knowledge of his materials and mastery of tapestry making's the technical processes added three- dimensional values that prompt visitors to appreciate his fiber sculptures.
