"A Gift for Ciccillo" |
A gift of great artists such as Di Cavalcanti, Alfredo Volpi, Flavio de Carvalho, Tarsila do Amaral and Victor Brecheret offered to Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho, in the 1950s, is the theme of the exhibition that FAAP held in its campus, located in Ribeirão Preto.
Informative and didactic, the exhibition "A Gift for Ciccillo" concentrates 48 works, among drawings, gouaches, watercolours and engravings, forming an album, which was offered as a tribute to this illustrious Sao Paulo´s citizen, for his incentive and stimulus to the culture.
At the side of his wife Yolanda Penteado, the artist stood out in the circuit of the arts, and founded the Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo, organizing the I International Biennial of Sao Paulo - first major exhibition held outside Europe and the United States - and created the Cia Cinematographic Vera Cruz and the Brazilian House of Comedy.
"The album of Ciccillo excells for the quality and uniqueness of the work, gathering a group of inedited works of great historical significance," says the director of the exibition, Denise Mattar. For this reason, the initiative of FAAP to present to the public this collection created by different generations of artists. From renowned artists such as Di Cavalcanti, Tarsila do Amaral and Flavio de Carvalho, to a generation later, as Bruno Giorgi, Geraldo de Barros, Di Prete, and the youngest group, as Aldemir Martins and Jacques Douchez.
The exhibition is divided into two nuclei: Artists and Documentation. At first, the works are presented with a mini-curriculum of each artist and grouped by periods: Modernists, Atelier Abstraction and the Ballet IV.
The nuclei "Documentation" brings together a number of photographic panels about Ciccillo and Yolanda´s lives, complemented by a DVD about that period. In this presentation the images of artists, the fashion and behavior, are contextualised in its political and economical moment. Celebrations from that time are emphasized such as the IV Centenary of Sao Paulo and the creation of the Ibirapuera Park.
The idea is to give the public part of the performance of one of the biggest admirers of national culture. "His actuation influenced on the performance of the art market, in the training of the public and encouraged the production of artistic vanguard, confering the national art an institutional and professional character, as well as contemporary," says the director.
