A COMÉDIA URBANA: DE HONORÉ DAUMIER A ARAÚJO PORTO-ALEGRE

The exhibition "A Comédia Urbana de Honoré Daumier a Araújo Porto-Alegre", organized by Heliana Angotti Salgueiro , displayed a specific moment of the socio-cultural relations between Brazil and France between 1830 and 1840 , concerning caricature and illustrated press.
Approximately 220 original works from the 19th Century were shown at
the exhibition. Among those presented , the exhibition highlighted some lithographs by Honoré Daumier, aquatints and oil-paintings showing the city of Paris and its theaters from 1830 to 1840, maps, periodicals, photographs and illustrated books.
Most of the works came from Maison de Balsac, from Ecole Nationale de Beaux Arts et Musée Carnavalet de Paris, from Biblioteca Nacional and Museu Nacional de Belas Artes do Rio de Janeiro , from Biblioteca Mário de Andrade, from IEB¬-USP, and also from private collectors .Also displayed, 04 magic lanterns from the Cinemathèque Française.
