These aspects have ensured success and recognition in the market for FAAP postgraduate programs. This recognition comes particularly from the people who are the very reason for FAAP's existence: professionals who depend on the Institution's continuing education project for their own careers. Continuous enhancement of products and services and the effort to ensure constant customer satisfaction have been premises guiding postgraduate education policy.
Over 4,500 participants and 300 educators and consultants were involved in 2005. Since its opening in 1981, there have been 2,300 courses attended by 55,000 students, who have produced 3,100 graduation dissertations - important sources for professionals and students to consult.
Surveys show satisfaction with quality of teaching. In 2000, 77.3 percent of students rated FAAP's postgraduate courses as very good or great. This index jumped to 91.4 percent in 2004. This shows how students recognize and appreciate the services provided, especially educational content.

In relation to teaching-learning-culture models, FAAP's Professional mba, its Advanced Seminars in Business Administration and Knowledge, business training sessions, Luxury Management and City Manager courses have become benchmarks for the continuing education segment. The postgraduate department is also responsible for the mte program for FAAP professors interested in deepening their knowledge in this area, to enhance the process of developing teaching material in their discipline, diversify presentation techniques, and explore all the resources of educational software. This is a long-term internal training program for professors to learn and exchange experiences of new technologies and ways of transmitting knowledge. This kind of contact was until very recently something seen only in the professors'"Common Room"; now it takes place in the mte classroom as a small community of practitioners constantly seeks leading edge technologies for the teaching-learning process.
Another indicator of excellence for FAAP's postgraduate activities, products, and services was renewal of its iso 9001 International Quality Management Certificate. The postgraduate department has another four international certificates awarded by official institutions for the recognition of quality: Germany's Deutsche Akkreditierungs-rat (dar); opposite page: FAAP center in São José dos Campos.

Educational and cultural activities offered by FAAP (including postgraduate courses) have been held at the Center for Excellence, a sophisticated space comprising an auditorium, classrooms and study rooms, library, and videoconference facilities. Over the years, the special conditions FAAP offers for developing continuing education activities at postgraduation and specialization levels have enabled it to establish partnerships with major corporations and top institutions in a wide range of fields of work, including in other states around Brazil, with the aim of having its quality education services available everywhere in the country.
Numerous postgraduation courses (many of them in advanced strategic administration or mba) have been held for professionals and executives from organizations such as Grupo Silvio Santos, Sistema Unimed, Brazilian Chevrolet Dealers Association (locally Abrac), the Construction Industry Organization (locally Sinduscon), the National Association of Building Material Merchants (locally Anamaco), Housing Industry Organization (locally Secovi), the Army, and the Air Force Academy. Some of the new challenges being tackled are the introduction of management tools such as the Balanced Scorecard or Six Sigma and preparing entries for the National Quality Award (locally pnq).
Over time, FAAP's postgraduation department has been playing a key role in training competent leaders and developing business leadership, thanks to its use of innovative educational methodologies and the work of its highly qualified and experienced faculty members. That is why FAAP can take pride in being recognized as one of the leading and most respected centers of excellence in postgraduation education in Brazil and in contributing to the socioeconomic development of the country. However, realizing that certification alone does not guarantee quality courses, the Institution has associated the question of the business culture to the educational project. Professors are also market professionals focused on all new developments. They have an understanding of the dynamics and needs of the business world, so they work proactively to have courses cover not only what it needs today, but also what it will need in the near future.
Qualimetria (review) reports that "FAAP's initiative of encouraging its professors to contribute to intellectual production is now materializing in the effort currently undertaken by professors in a constant quest to improve teaching-learning processes in the field of continuing education now focused on professional specialization [.]. The experience of the postgraduation teaching team has been recorded in works of reference accessible to students and the external public and fully attuned to the needs of the different areas of knowledge in the courses. They are: Strategic Marketing; Promotional Marketing; Retailing and Customers; Mathematics for Entrepreneurs; International Controller; In Search of Business Excellence; Writing a Thesis; The Art of Selling Ideas; The Retail Market for Building Materials in Brazil; and Potentializing Your Creativity. By the end of 2006, FAAP is hoping to reach its target of having one hundred different books published by its professors."
One aspect of being modern (or perhaps the expression should be "being current," or "living in the future-present") is extending FAAP beyond the parent site with the new campus in São José dos Campos, an industrial complex and university center for the Paraíba Valley region's economic and technology powerhouse. The FAAP unit here has twelve classrooms, a library, an exhibition room, auditorium, and parking lot. A postgraduation section was set up too, with a career-planning seminar, as FAAP's first outside the city of São Paulo. For over twelve years, FAAP held its courses in São José dos Campos at hotels or on company premises. The new center will host several postgraduation courses in fields such as business administration, business administration for architects and engineers, marketing, human resources, business planning and control, mba in advanced business management, training for entrepreneurs, and social responsibility, as an obligatory subject for the Institution.
FAAP has another annex in Ribeirão Preto, a key city in the interior of the state of São Paulo with about 500,000 inhabitants (three million in the region) and almost 60,000 university students. The Foundation has taught courses here since 1995, and now has its own three-floor building for education, exhibitions, and cultural development (the habitual triad). "Entering a society through art and culture is an elegant and efficient way to open the door for education," explains Victor Mirshawka.
Courses in Ribeirão Preto have certain differentials, such as postgraduation in agribusiness, municipal administration, or retail marketing, or the mba in health management, business administration in agribusiness or food companies, full hr, and global marketing. There are extension courses in agribusiness (the mainstay of the region's economy), training for entrepreneurs, creativity, and art history. After one year, the mba courses were rated the best in the city.
FAAP sees Brazil as a whole as a vast field for expansion. Through a special arrangement with a union, the National Workers Confederation (locally cnt), FAAP teaches a logistics course in São Luís do Maranhão. With support from local partners, City Manager courses have graduated over 2,000 in Cuiabá (mt), Ourinhos (sp), Resende (rj), Belém (pa), São José do Rio Preto (sp), Santos (sp), São José dos Campos (sp), Cubatão (sp), Itanhaém (sp), and São Paulo (sp). It has been in existence for ten years and consists of 400 classroom hours aimed at training municipal managers with the technical competence required to advise Brazilian mayors on the best way to manage their cities. There have also been courses for Unimed throughout the state of São Paulo and for the Brazilian Air Force and Army in Pirassununga and Campinas, respectively.
Gerente de Cidade [City Manager] is published by FAAP and has a large circulation and readership. Subjects covered include not only the present and future of the megalopolises, but also management of small cities, with interviews and notes on lectures, news and analyses of significant conventions and seminars in the field of public administration. The review takes up issues such as social responsibility, environmental conservation, and electronic government, and analyzes the most effective municipal policies from around the world.
