Collections

The collection of the CNCS includes the finest collections in the world. It is formed by the collection of the three founding institutions: the National Library of France, the Comédie-Française and the National Opera of Paris.
The oldest costume dates from the second half of the nineteenth century. All genres are represented: military costumes, historical, tutus, animals; all ages, all sewing techniques and materials.

Since its opening, the Center began to build his own collection. Donations made by institutions like the National Conservatory of Music and Dance, Ballet Atlantique and its director, the choreographer Régine Chopinot,  Daunou Theater and its director - Denise Petididier, costume designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix, have enriched the collection with valuable technical pieces. Recently, the costumes of the diva Régine Crespin were added to the collection. Once a piece is part of the CNCS, these costumes take the status of works of art. They will never be worn again and will be treated the same way a work of museum is.  An accurate inventory with detailed information and an identification photo follow each costume.
