The Centre National du Costume de Scène - CNCS, whose president is Christian Lacroix, is the first structure of conservation, both in France and abroad, to be, entirely, devoted to the material heritage of the theaters. Its mission is the preservation, study and appreciation of a collection with 9000 costumes for theater, opera, ballet, as well as, painted canvas for the sceneries. The collection comes from three institutions of the Center: the National Library of France, the Comédie-Française and the National Opera of Paris.
