Born in Arles, France, in 1951, Christian Lacroix tailored styles and references from other periods, turning all the rules already established by the evolution of fashion. He created disconcerting collections in which predominated the luxury, fantasy, and especially all his audacity.
For over twenty years, even before creating his Maison de couture, the fashion designer has worked with a constant passion in the theater aisles and in their couture houses. He combines the science of the art of haute couture, the artisanal savoir-faire, tricks and gimmicks of the stage, the respect for the work and personal sensitivity of the actors. He likes to evoke his first steps in couture, when he was young and after coming back from theater he reinterpreted the costumes he had seen on the scene.
In 2008, he made his dream of becoming a museum curator come true and directed two exhibitions celebrating the 20 years of his Maison. The first one was "Christian Lacroix, Histoires de Mode", held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The second one is "Christian Lacroix- Scene Costumes", designed for the CNCS, as from August 2009, at FAAP – Museum of Brazilian Art. The refinement of Lacroix’s haute couture had already been presented at FAAP in 1997, when he presented his collections in a fashion show and in an exhibition.
