A tour through the Brazilian social, political and cultural history, in recent decades, recorded in more than 600 photographs, by approximately 170 professionals. That is the main purpose of the new exhibition, Photography in Magazine, held in São Paulo - Brazilian Art Museum, from May 19th to July 12th.

Recognized names such as: Bob Wolfenson, Cristiano Mascaro, Orlando Britto, Peter Martinelli, Claudia Andujar, JR Duran, Luiz Tripolli and Maureen Bisilliat
will have their work displayed in the exhibition. From the exhibit, a selection of 250 photos will be reproduced in large format.

The curators are Rubens Fernandes Junior - director of the School of Communication and Marketing of FAAP, and Thomaz Souto Corrêa - vice-president of the Editorial Board of Editora Abril, with the participation of Carlos Grassetti - Director of Corporate Art of Grupo Abril. The scenography of the exhibition is by Marcello Dantas, who is also responsible for the area of the Museum of the Portuguese Language, in Sao Paulo.

According to Dante’s conception, the scenery includes an impressive collection of 250 highlighted photographs, and an extensive digital collection presented in a cylinder of projected moving images. It is also complemented by testimonials that bring the public to the art of photographers, as well as their stories.

Besides knowing a selection of the most emblematic photographs already published in Abril’s magazines, visitors will be invited to participate in a parallel program which promote workshops, lectures and guided visits by educational service.
According to Thomaz Souto Corrêa, the public will have a unique opportunity to see images that marked the diversity of photographic production in Abril’s publishings. "Abril’s magazines - each one in its editorial formula - bring a range of singular themes and photographic styles in the Brazilian press," he says.

Rubens Fernandes Junior, who is also a researcher of historical and contemporary photography, says that the exhibition represents the consolidation of the photography as an expression in the visual arts, and it is present in the press as an important resource of information and reflection. "A photograph is always a possibility of a trip, movement; it is able to recover emotions and feelings. For this reason, the relevance and significance of the exhibition, which brings a selected and distinguished symbolic production for the national photography", he explains.

Photography in magazine marks the sequence of the project of cultural exhibitions by Grupo Abril. It started with Illustrating in Magazine, which had an audience of more than 77 thousand people, from eight Brazilian cities, to see the best illustrations already published by Abril’s magazines. Its first three editions took place at FAAP’s Campi, in São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto and São José dos Campos.
