SUMMARY
Study the mechanisms adopted in Brazil to support and provide financial resources for cultural projects
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The Brazilian culture market has been growing at a rapid pace in the past 10 years. There are many examples that support this statement. According to the Ministry of Culture and a survey conducted by the Fundação João Pinheiro, cultural activity in Brazil accounts for 1% of the country’s GDP. This situation reveals another issue: the need for more professionalization in the cultural area. All cultural sectors need to be professionalized in order to face the challenges of the new century. This course deals with the mechanisms involved in the heated cultural market and the professionalization of the cultural field, focusing on the visual arts. Professional education demands strategic planning, a critical review of cultural production in various political and economic arenas, encouraging contributions to new market niches within respective cultural contexts at the regional and national levels. This new situation demands basic knowledge about the development of cultural projects, with special attention to the activity behind the scenes of production and the market.
